Yvonne Chu's contributions to the war effort during the Han Dynasty made her a legend in her original life; in current-day Philadelphia, she's struggling to get by. She still loves her father and is fiercely protective of him, but in this case she's taking care of him in lieu of a corrupt system that won't.

Her father is an undocumented immigrant, who worked manual labor for most of his life. The physical toll on his body has left him in poor health and bad shape, and his lack of insurance makes obtaining medical care impossibly expensive. He moved in with Yvonne earlier this year, after his hip gave out on him and rendered him unable to continue working. He desperately needs a replacement that he can't afford, so all of Yvonne's spare cash is currently going towards the funding.

She works nights as a dispatcher for the local fire department. She's essentially paid to watch a lot of movies, and while far less worthy of accolades than her previous lot in life, she still likes to know she's doing something to help people in her community.

There are moments when she misses her China, but is reluctant to reverse the spell because of what it might mean for her father's health -- in modern-day Philadelphia, while excessively costly, he's more likely to receive the medical care he needs. This has put her fledgling relationship with Bryan at odds, as he desperately wants to return to their era.

She possesses no supernatural abilities or powers, but is skilled with swords, at various forms of martial arts, and improvisation. only one of these things is actually useful in day to day life.
